We are all aware of the kind of actor Cillian Murphy is. The method actor takes his roles very seriously. Murphy is known for his perfection in the roles he plays. He is said to have gone to extreme levels while preparing for his roles. In his new role as Robert Oppenheimer, Murphy was said to have put himself under severe conditions while preparing for the role.
Emily Blunt On Murphy’s Diet
Co-actors Emily Blunt and Matt Damon got candid in an interview with Extra on July 7th. Emily Blunt who plays Kitty Oppenheimer in the movie, revealed the transformation that Murphy went through to get his role as Robert Oppenheimer as perfect as he could. Emily and Matt revealed the diets followed by Murphy.
She told Extra “He had such a monumental undertaking”. Adding more “And he could only eat, like, an almond every day”. She shared her awe at Murphy’s transformation saying “He was so emaciated”. Furthermore, the actress noted that Murphy wouldn’t attend most of the cast dinners due to his diet. She and Damon recalled the experience the cast had in New Mexico while speaking about Murphy. “We invited Cillian but he never went out,” said Blunt. Adding on she said, “Many nights he (Murphy) ended up eating a slice of an apple”.
Co-Star Matt Damon added, “He was losing so much weight for the part that he just didn’t eat dinner, ever”.
Cillian Murphy On Preparing For The Role
Murphy is one of the greatest actors of this generation. And it is achieved because of his dedication to the roles he plays. Murphy undertook the role of Robert Oppenheimer who is said to have lived with tons of nicotine and little to no food. Also, the pressure from the director – Christopher Nolan himself drove Murphy toward his transformation.
Murphy in his interview with the New York Times said “I love acting with my body, and Oppenheimer had a very distinct physicality and silhouette, which I wanted to get right,”. He continued “I had to lose quite a bit of weight, and we worked with the costume and tailoring; he was very slim, almost emaciated, and existed on martinis and cigarettes.”
The actor got candid with Guardian in July. “You become competitive with yourself a little bit, which is not healthy, I wouldn’t advise it”. He stated.
